Who's behind Knäcke?

Markus Siebert, born in 1963, has been performing street theater throughout Europe for more than three decades. His (preferred) métier has always been theater in public spaces: outdoors, in the open air, completely without a "doorstep" and thus freely accessible to all who come along the way, regardless of income, origin or age.

As early as the 1980s, Markus developed his first shows as a self-taught artist, at that time with a focus on juggling and dog training. Soon after, he took further and advanced training in clown and physical theater (Grotowski) and learned "the art of stumbling" (Udo Behrenbrinker).

This was followed from 1994 to 1995 by clown and acting training at the TuT in Hannover, Germany, where he developed the character "Knäcke". Since then, he has performed KNÄCKE and later other characters in various productions throughout Germany and Europe.

In addition to his solo shows, he has repeatedly worked in various ensembles and formations. Among other things, he was the initiator of the ensemble "Platzregen", a union of many different well-known street theater actors and worked in the trio "Die Neffen".

Markus Siebert is a sought-after director in the field of street theater.
He has a nationwide and Europe-wide network and many years of experience as a board member of the association Bundesverband Theater im öffentlichen Raum e.V. (the federal association of theater in public spaces) in the years from 2015 to 2019.

Together with his longtime friend and agent Gerd Rudolph, he directs the festival Von Nord nach West / From North to West, a street theater tour across Germany.

He is co-founder and co-operator of Schaulust, a production and event venue for independent artists in Bremen, Germany.
